"Using memorable rhymes and illustrations...author Janet Clement and illustrator Albert G. Rodriguez have given life to Judaic traditions, customs and religious practices in Jewish Alphabet, a book written for children ages four to eight".
Wendy R. Levine Gross, Jewish Press of Pinellas County and Tampa

"
Jewish Alphabet is an ABC book that also celebrates aspects of Jewish religion and culture. A brief, rhyming couplet accompanies each letter of the alphabet, and most entries are followed by a prose explanation of words or terms that may be unfamiliar to a child. The uncomplicated color illustrations complement the entries nicely"
Midwest Book Review

Children's Bookwatch-online review

"Don't expect the Hebrew alphabet in this book. It is written in English. But do expect a variety of information about Jewish traditions, culture and diet. Utilizing alliteration and rhyme, author Janet Clement has done a fine job with this basic children's book.....Rodriguez's illustrations are remarkable, being very colorful and working the letters into the pictures. All in all, this is a useful primer with a multi-cultural twist"
E.Alan Long, Faith Editor-CCN, Little Rock Arkansas

"......colorful and inventive...."
Heidi Estrin, for School Library Journal

"Colorful illustrations are the main draw in this alphabet book that presents a different Jewish-related idea, item, event, or person for each letter.....that children could find appealing and occasionally humorous"
Children's Literature

"The Anglo rather than Hebrew alphabet is used here....Jewish oriented--"K is for Kiddush, a prayer over wine/thanking God for giving us the fruit of the vine// L is for latkes fried "til crisp and yummy/ Add applesauce or sour cream and fill up your tummy."// .....Mixed-media illustrations incorporate the shape of the letter into the object each represents..."

Be sure to take a look at volume #182, page 49, when you visit the library. From SATA Sidelights "Janet Clement's goals as a writer are to share her love of reading, promote early literacy, and through her Judaic children's books foster appreciation of her Jewish faith".....Clement also noted: "Not having the capability to illustrate my own stories, I am so fortunate to be able to work collaboratively with Al during the entire writing process as my manuscripts take shape. His artistic talent and the ability to illustrate are true gifts."
